Some reviews for The Thank You Dinner

It's time for The Thank You Dinner!

The Thank You Dinner

[ 23rd October, 2008 ]

This year the Ensemble Theatre in Sydney is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and I've been asked to contribute something for the celebrations. Since I am one of the theatre's founding members, though it hardly seems possible (I mean where has the time gone?), it's only right and proper I participate. The fact that I'm still around is something to celebrate too I suspect. It's also an honour, the Ensemble and Hayes Gordon its founder played an important role in my development as an actor.

From Saturday next the 25 October I will be performing a piece of my own there, first presented at the Clarendon Dinner Theatre in Katoomba during 2001, The Thank You Dinner, a Feast to Remember. It's a black comedy I suppose with touches of the grand guignol but quite diverting nonetheless.

It proved to be very entertaining in the mountains and I believe warrants trotting out again in the Big Smoke. The performance times are quite irregular, folks, but if you can find one that suits you it would be nice to see you there.

My Fair Lady - with Taryn Fiebig

MY 'Fair Lady' experience

[ 1st July, 2008 ]

I’m having a wonderful time this year, appearing as Professor Henry Higgins in Stuart Maunder’s production of My Fair Lady for Opera Australia. And what a grand old girl she is: if you’ll pardon the contradiction in terms, more than fifty years young. Audiences everywhere have been enthusiastic, sell--out shows in Melbourne and Sydney, with Canberra and Brisbane to follow. It’s returning to Sydney later in the year but without yours truly.

“They don’t write them like this any more”. My Fair Lady without question is a Broadway Classic, and I’m revelling in this golden opportunity; I think I can safely say Henry is right up my street. For an actor it’s a rare treat to have such wonderful things to say, and for the audience such great stuff to listen to: words and music.

My Fair Lady - with Rhys McConnaghie

Fortunately the reviews have been just what the doctor ordered and I’ve managed to land yet another feather in my cap. Over the years the theatre has handed me a fistful of marvellous roles, Henry I have to say is up there with the best of them.

My colleagues are all wonderful, Taryn Fiebig an absolutely gorgeous Eliza, with Rhys McConnaghie. Robert Grubb, Matthew Robinson, Adele Johnson, and the entire ensemble making up what I surely consider the dream team. Incidentally the great Miss Nancye Hayes playing Higgins’ worldly wise mother is winning hearts in every town.

The latest reviews

“Reg Livermore is wonderful as Henry Higgins …each comically barbed line timed to perfection …irascible, mysoginistic, …yet still eminently likeable”.
Jo Litson, Sunday Telegraph.

“Reg Livermore is a most adorable cranky pedant …his acting expertise brings good depth into the character – even with his flaws, his grumpiness and his insults, you can’t help but love Higgins”.
Katarina Kroslakova, The Sun-Herald.

A message of thanks.

[ 29th June, 2008 ]

Thanks to everyone who has contacted me of late, mostly in search of information regarding the availability of my various recordings. Sadly they are not available any more though possibly a search on e-Bay might turn up one or two. You just never know.

Reg to join Pirates in Melbourne 2007.

Pirates Of Penzance

[ September 2006 ]

Reg will perform the role of Major-General Stanley in Opera Australia's production of The Pirates of Penzance during its 2007 Winter Season in Melbourne; he is excited to be working alongside Anthony Warlow, David Hobson and Suzanne Johnston for the first time. Reg performed the role previously for the late lamented Victoria State Opera during the early 1990's; he's hoping the difficult patter song is still in his head somewhere, and that when he has to recall it the words will come to him like a faithful puppy. For Bookings: The Victorian Arts Center.

Reg named an Entertainer of the Century!

[ April 2006 ]

100 Australian's Reg and Kylie Minogue

Saturday 29th April, 2006 Waterfront City Melbourne: the Variety Walk of Fame was inaugurated. Among the 100 Australian Entertainers of the Century named was Reg. His star appears on the walk at Docklands.

At the celebratory dinner that night a 9 metre long painting by Jamie Cooper was unveiled depicting all of those honoured. Reg was particularly pleased to have been placed beside Kylie Minogue, as she no doubt would have been had she known about it.

At the dinner for the occasion Reg found himself seated beside the legendary Smokey Dawson and his 99 year old wife, Dotty.
